The Colour Thief

Today something really exciting happened. We discovered a trail of colour outside our classroom so we followed it hoping to discover where all the colours had gone. We bravely followed the trail to the forest where we met a monkey and had to give him a banana so we could pass by.  The monkey told us to go over the mountain but there was a terrifying sleeping dragon. We crept carefully so we didn’t wake him up. Finally we found the colour thief and traded some brightly coloured paint to get our colours back.  What an exciting adventure we had!

What a great day we had! Our trip to Saltaire was such fun and we saw lots of amazing things.  We really enjoyed our walk along the canal spotting lots of sculptures. We looked at the different parts of Saltaire on the Hockney painting and tried to see if they were the same or different in real life. We also completed some amazing pictures of the church. Well done Year 2 what a great day!

All Stars Cricket

What a treat we had today! Tom from All Stars Cricket came to do a workshop with us.  We played lots different games that helped us to build our team work skills and we even managed to beat our personal bests in some of the games we played.  What a great morning we had!

This week Year 2 have been completing lots of exciting art for our Frog Belly Rat Bone topic. We mixed paints to make different types of green to paint our character with and even used felt tips to add more detail. We have also used our old socks to create our own Frog Belly Rat Bones. What do you think?

Frog Belly Rat Bone

This week we have started looking at a new story of Frog Belly Rat Bone.  There is a special boy who lives in a dull dark Cementland full of junk.  He fins some treasure and buries it but sadly some robbers come and steal it.  We discovered who the robbers were and put them on trial for this.  We then wrote up our arguments and decided who should be punished and how.  This weeks star writer is Thenuka for super content and improvement of presentation. Well done you!

Meerkat Mail

This week we have been writing our own versions of the story of Meerkat Mail focusing on the cunning jackal and his plan to flow and catch Sunny the meerkat.  We planned and wrote our own stories think of lots of funny things that would happen to him.  Our star story writers this week were Romeesa and Nathan. Take a look at their stories below.  Well done you two!

Insect omelette

This week we have started our new topic. We found out all about a meerkat called Sunny. He goes on a trip trying to discover a perfect place to live. He tries eggs for the first time but isn’t sure they agree with him. To try and pursued him to try eggs we made a insect omelette and then wrote some amazing instructions to tell other people how to make them. Well done to Maisie and Declan whose work really impressed me today! Thank you for working so hard Year 2.

Science week

This week has been science week we have loved investigating habitats and animals. We step up a den with food inside to tempt nocturnal animals into it. We put paint at either end so they could leave footprints. We found some small foot prints and think it could have been a mouse, hole or shrew.

Moving pictures

As part of our Owl and the Pussy Cat learning we have been making moving pictures.  We began by creating a seascape using pastels and thinking carefully about the colours and shapes.  Then we made boat with the owl and the pussy cat in and carefully cut a hole in the background so we could move this along.  What do you think?
